Clinical Counsellor & Art Therapist

"You matter because you are, and you matter to the last moment of your life."

- Dame Cicely Saunders, Founder of the Hospice movement

I'm an Art Therapist and Clinical Counsellor in Vancouver, British Columbia. I am registered with the BCACC as a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and am a Professional Member of the BC Art Therapy Association. I earned a Master of Counselling Psychology: Art Therapy degree from Adler University following the completion of my Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia. My post-graduate studies allowed me to amalgamate my two greatest passions: psychology and art.

My motivation for pursuing a career as a mental health care practitioner stems from personal experiences of loss and bereavement. Experiential knowledge of grief and how it may present, sometimes in the most unexpected ways, has motivated me to stimulate conversation about the misrepresented (although universal) experiences of death, dying, and grief.

In addition to grief and loss, I specialize in anxiety, depression, chronic pain, palliative care, elder care, and end-of-life concerns. I have worked locally in residential care facilities, facilitating both individual and group art therapy sessions, and with individuals experiencing dementia or memory loss. Art Therapy offers a unique alternative to verbal communication for these particular clients who may struggle to express themselves verbally.

I am currently working part-time as an Associate Counsellor with Julia Kristina Counselling, a private practice located in downtown Vancouver. Much of my work involves helping clients to alleviate life stress and anxiety, to learn emotional regulation skills, and to improve interpersonal relationships. The remainder of my time is dedicated to self-care, community involvement, and independent professional work.

Although raised in the States, Vancouver has become my home in recent years and I am invested in contributing to this beautiful community as a mental health care practitioner and  a social justice advocate.
